EMDR therapist Dallas

Lauren Petka

Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, EMDR certified

I’m a therapist committed to fostering a space where individuals can develop self-compassion, trust, empowerment, and authenticity. I work with people from diverse backgrounds throughout the state of Texas, helping them discover their true potential.

My journey into therapy began as a client. Struggling with anxiety and depression, I found myself stuck, unable to reach the life I envisioned. Through deep inner work, my perspectives shifted. I became more hopeful, optimistic, and empowered, seeing both myself and the world in a new light. I gained confidence and a stronger sense of what I was capable of achieving.

The transformative impact therapy had on my life reinforced my passion for this work. It continues to drive me as I guide others on their own paths to healing and growth.

Early in my career, I supported individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Witnessing their resilience and the challenges they faced in healing from profound trauma sparked my passion for trauma work. This experience deepened my dedication to supporting others through their recovery and inspired me to specialize in trauma-focused therapy.

The therapies I practice

I am an integrative therapist, meaning I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. I draw from multiple therapeutic models, combining them into a cohesive approach tailored to each client's needs. In practice, I primarily draw from experiential therapy, EMDR therapy, attachment theory, and existential theory. Often, old thought patterns, life experiences, narratives from our childhood, and early experiences shape the ways we view ourselves and the world in the present moment. Through our work together, we will uncover what those are, and create new beliefs, experiences and narratives that feel more authentic to you in the now.

Throughout my practice, I have found that one of the most significant ways that the brain can change, is through the neural networks in our subcortical brain. Experiential modalities work best to activate these parts of our brain to illicit the change you desire. Experiential therapy focuses on the here and now. Through increased awareness in not only our brain but also in our body, we can shift the ways we think.

I believe, and research supports, that the rapport between therapist and client is essential for successful therapy. For this reason, I prioritize the therapeutic relationship, placing it at the forefront of our work together.
